New World Group launched "New World Young Leaders" to support the nurture of future leaders in the Mainland and Hong Kong

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, New World Development Company Limited ("NWD" or "the Group", Hong Kong stock code: 0017) today launched a project named "New World Young Leaders". By supporting various programmes, the project aims at promoting the exchange and integration of the young people as well as nurturing future leaders in the Mainland and Hong Kong.

The kick-off ceremony was held at Renaissance Harbour View Hotel, Hong Kong, with Mr Li Gang, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR; Mr Raymond Young, Director, Celebrations Coordination Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Dr Henry Cheng, Managing Director, New World Group; Mr William Tsang, Executive Chairman of the Organizing Committee for Celebrating the Tenth Anniversary of Reunification by the Hong Kong Youth Sector; Professor Edward Ng, Chairman, Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation ("WZQCF") and Mr Andrew You, Deputy Chief Campaigner, Roundtable Group as the honourable officiating guests.

Young people are leaders of the future. The long-term prosperity of Hong Kong as well as the Mainland will depend on the perseverance and vibrancy of the next generation. Dr Henry Cheng, Managing Director of New World Group was delighted that organizations from different fronts had been striving to nurture future leaders for Hong Kong and the Mainland. He would like the Group to contribute to it too, 'Committed and devoted to China, New World Group has been actively participating and supporting various education and training programmes, in addition to promoting the development of the country. To celebrate this memorable year of Hong Kong, the Group has determined to uphold the development of the youth in the region by launching the project named "New World Young Leaders". Through different programmes, we want to train the young people to become responsible citizens and contributors to society.'

In the kick-off ceremony, Mr William Tsang, Executive Chairman of the Organizing Committee for Celebrating the Tenth Anniversary of Reunification by the Hong Kong Youth Sector; Professor Edward Ng, Chairman of WZQCF and Mr Andrew You, Deputy Chief Campaigner of Roundtable Group introduced the programmes supported by "New World Young Leaders", including:

Chinese Culture Week

  • Young people from the 56 ethnic groups will be invited to Hong Kong. They will attend a series of activities with the youth in Hong Kong, enhancing the unity of the ethnic groups and achieving the harmonious development of China through understanding and communication.

Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation

  • By providing funding and technical support for university students, professionals and volunteers to actualize sustainable bridge projects, WZQCF, a Hong Kong registered charity, aims to improve the livelihood of the poor from remote areas, inspire appreciation, respect and preservation of local culture and ecological environment, and integrate Hong Kong into the Mainland by encouraging young generations to help the needy from the Mainland, and build a spiritual bridge with love, appreciation and mutual understanding.
  • New World Group has donated five million Hong Kong dollar as the seed money for the Foundation

 

"My Generation of Chinese" - Guangdong-Hong Kong Student Exchange Programme

  • The programme aims at opening up a door for youths from different backgrounds to discuss various issues, including social topics, creative culture and urban planning, in the Mainland and Hong Kong. The programme will review the changes and achievements after Hong Kong's handover, and look into the future and pave ways for subsequent collaborations.

Youth in Excellence - Advantages and Cooperation between Hong Kong and Mainland Youth 10 Years after the Establishment of the HKSAR -

  • Through a survey on Hong Kong and mainland youth's competitiveness and future prospect of cooperation, it aims to arouse young people's reflection on their strengths, weaknesses and positioning in the future of China. Built on the result of the survey, a symposium will be held to further discuss the current development and opportunities arisen from the integration between the Mainland and Hong Kong, with the aim to helping Hong Kong youth to define their national identity.
