New World Group donates RMB 1 million to Red Cross Society of China for Sichuan earthquake relief
New World Development Company Limited ("NWD", Hong Kong stock code: 17) is deeply saddened by the death toll caused by the serious earthquake in Sichuan yesterday, and has decided to donate RMB 1 million to Red Cross Society of China for providing materials and other needed resources for the victims, and help with the future reconstruction of the communities affected.
Mr Adrian Cheng, Executive Director of NWD said, "It is tragic that ten of thousand of people lost their lives and were left homeless in the earthquake. NWD responds to the needy in earthquake and contributes donations, providing a touching display of empathy with the victims and demonstrating that we are an integral part of the country and hold social responsibility as our core value."
Staff members at Chengdu office of New World China Land Limited ("NWCL", Hong Kong stock code: 917) will volunteer as a union to help the local Government in the reconstruction of the affected area.
NWCL staff members in Chengdu will ahead to the local rescue centre for blood donation. The corporate volunteer team will also assist in the rescue and rebuilding work. Colleagues of NWCL in 20 Mainland cities are also raising funds through different ways.
Mr Cheng added, "The catastrophe reminds us that life is precious, and all of us should treasure it and make our lives more meaningful. We also hope that Hong Kong people will band together to show more concern for those around us, and create a caring and harmonious community."
