"New Youth New World" Raises Mainland Internship Placements to 320
Jointly organised by the Hong Kong United Youth Association ("HKUYA"), New World Development Company Limited ("New World Group") and HKUYA Student Exchange Network, "New Youth New World Summer Internship Programme 2013" continues to receive overwhelming response this year, attracting over 2,000 applicants from eight local universities. To extend the benefits of the programme to more students, the number of internship positions is increased to 320 this year.
Expanding programme scale
To cater to the growing needs of Hong Kong students to gain work experience in Mainland China, the internship positions is increased to 320 this year. Among the applicants, 40% are first-year undergraduates, including a significant number of students admitted through Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, who are eager to prepare themselves for their future career life as soon as they can. The judges, comprising Adrian Yip, Chairman of HKUYA, Helen Lu, Vice Chairman of HKUYA, and Maria Cheung, General Manager of Corporate Communication of New World Group, assess the applicants today based on their intellectual stature, communication skills and general knowledge of Mainland China.

Offering a wide array of positions
Unlike other similar internship programmes, the "New Youth New World Summer Internship Programme" offers internship opportunities in organisations such as the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the Palace Museum, Beijing No.1 Social Welfare House and China Central Television. The programme also provides placements in a number of state-owned enterprises, including China National Offshore Oil Corporation, China Railway Engineering Corporation, China National Cereals, and Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation. A number of subsidiaries under New World Group, which include New World China Land Limited, New World Department Store China Limited, New World TMT Limited and New World Strategic Investment Limited, and its sister company Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited offer positions in a range of businesses.With encouraging feedback frompast interns, this year, the internship positions of art and cultural institutes have been increased accordingly. Students will learn from different perspectives through taking part in projects and site visits, and writing up research reports.
Gaining insights into culture and lifestyle in Mainland China
Other than work placements, students will be arranged to visit local governmental departments, renowned corporations and famous scenic spots such as Beijing Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mainland properties owned by New World Group, Shanghai World Expo Display Centre and Dalian Commodity Exchange. Students will also have the chance to exchange views with local students on topics like history, politics, economics and lifestyle. Separately, the "CEO Exchange Day" will allow students to meet and learn from veteran entrepreneurs and professionals.
Since its launch seven years ago, "New Youth New World Internship Programme" has offered over 1,200 university students internship placements in different corporations in Mainland China, including but not limited to government departments, renowned state-owned enterprises, private enterprises and listed Hong Kong enterprises. Participating students take up their positions in Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian and Chengdu for six weeks starting mid-June 2013.
