New World x NGO Fair 2014 Brings Together Communities and Showcases Youths’ Talents
New World Development Company Limited (the “Group”; Stock Code: 17.HK) unveils a meaningful community event, New World X NGO Fair 2014, and held an opening ceremony recently. With the participation of numerous social welfare organisations and social enterprises, New World x NGO Fair 2014 will feature fairs with various themes throughout the year. With the aim of bringing together social welfare organisations and social enterprises, the fairs also serve as platforms for youths to showcase their talents. Organised by New World Group Charity Foundation and supported by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, New World x NGO Fair 2014, a part of Bless Hong Kong Campaign, features numerous participating social welfare organisations. With the support of The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, many more social enterprises will be participating in the fairs and be benefited, not only assisting them to develop the business, but also foster cross-sectoral collaboration to develop social capital as well as to inject new social vigor to embrace the community.
The Group specially invited Lam Ding-fung, District Social Welfare Officer, Tsuen Wan/Kwai Tsing, Social Welfare Department and Chua Hoi Wai, Chief Executive, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service as officiating guests of the opening ceremony which was also graced by the presence of Adrian Cheng, Executive Director and Joint General Manager, New World Development Company Limited. Cheng said, “The Group has always been dedicated to caring for the community and enhancing social harmony. With the aim of bringing together social welfare organisations and social enterprises, New World x NGO Fair 2014 gives members of the public the chance to gain a better understanding of the services provided by social enterprises, thereby helping them to enhance their brands, competitiveness and effectiveness. Through a vast array of stage performances at the fairs, youths are given the opportunity to demonstrate their talents.”
New World x NGO Fair 2014’s opening ceremony was held at the Group’s Discovery Park – Shopping Centre. The opening ceremony featured performances from youths of three social welfare organisations, including acrobatic basketball dance by Hong Kong Playground Association, Hip Hop Dance by Dancing Life Crew from Tung Wah Groups of Hospitals (TWGHs) - Tuen Mun Integrated Services Centre and A cappella performance by Urban Walkers from The Neighborhood Advice-Action Council - Tung Chung Integrated Services Centre. The younger generation’s great potential was unleashed on this versatile platform.
Featuring eight social enterprises, including Caritas Second Hand Recycling Shop, Christian Action, Fair Circle, iBakery, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, HKSKH Lady MacLehose Centre - Love Multi Culture, New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association, Green Ladies, St. James’ Settlement and So...Soap!, a charity sale, which included products that are donated from the Group’s staff, was also held on the day of the opening ceremony. All proceeds went to participating social enterprises.
