New World Springboard Mentorship Programme Wins Social Capital Corporate Volunteer Award
New World Development Company Limited (“New World Group” or “the Group”; Stock Code: 17.HK) garnered Most Sustainable Award and Social Capital Corporate Volunteer Award in the Social Capital Corporate Volunteer Challenge organised by the Labour and Welfare Bureau. The honours recognise the Group’s long-term commitment to promoting sustainability in the community through New World Springboard Mentorship Programme.
Partnering with professional sports institutes including the Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association and Hong Kong Basketball Association since 2012, the sustainable community programme, New World Springboard, aims to improve social mobility of young people by providing them with up to seven years of professional sports training. The Group consolidates efforts of 10 NGOs and other social groups to inject resources to New World Springboard and facilitate collaboration and interaction such as sharing from Hong Kong’s elite athletes on their inspiring experience. The Parent Club was set up to provide members with necessary support and a platform for experience exchange. Seminars on parenting and mentorship training are also offered in collaboration with social welfare organisations. To foster the all-round development of students, the Group runs New World Springboard Community Ambassador Programme in which mentors and mentees are paired up in community service.
Adrian Cheng, Executive Vice-chairman and Joint General Manager of New World Development Company Limited, and Founder of New World Springboard, said, “New World Springboard Community Ambassador Programme encourages the young generation to give back to society by supporting worthy social causes.” “With this programme, we hope to play a part innurturing a caring and responsible new generation. The Most Sustainable Award and Social Capital Corporate Volunteer Award recognise our sustainable efforts in building social capital,” Adrian added.
The Group engages its employees, their relatives and friends in the mentorship programme with regular training and seminars on communication skills to help youths develop a positive attitude. The programme currently has over 530 mentors from 24 Group companies.
Launched by the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund (CIIF), the Social Capital Corporate Volunteer Challenge promotes corporate participation in building social capital by enhancing cross-sector collaboration, community networking, mutual trust and social cohesion.
