New World Springboard Mentors and Students Visit Environmental Friendly Depot
On 6 July 2013, as a token of appreciation for New World Springboard students whose attendance is 80% or above, New World Group (the "Group"; Stock Code: 17.HK) organised a tour of the environmental friendly facilities at the depot headquarters of New World First Bus for mentors and students. As a fantastic prelude to their long summer vacation, students even had the chance to play the role of bus captains and spend a happy and meaningful weekend with their mentors.
The students and mentors rode the bus to tour the environmental facilities at the depot, which allows them to understand the depot's daily operation and maintenance equipment such as car washing machines, petrol filling stations and a workshop for retreading car wheels. The mentors detailed the environmental friendly qualities of each facility which broadened the horizons of students and helped them understand the ‘green' side of buses.
Students and mentors also had the chance to be bus captains. The occasion marked the first time they were in the driving seat on a bus and students and mentors took photos of each other as mementos. The real bus captain on duty also elaborated on the mechanics of buses and introduced students to the brand new model Alexander Dennis Enviro500. He answered all questions from the students, helping them learn more about the latest technology in buses.
A seminar for parents of the students was held where an experienced guest speaker shared with them insights on how to improve parent/child relationship through sports and games. In a lively manner, he helped the parents understand the importance of sports and health for their children.
New World Springboard aims at encouraging under-resourced youths and improving their social mobility. The initial phase of the programme focuses on swimming and basketball playing by providing at least five years of free professional training to qualified under-resourced youths. In addition to sports training, New World Springboard also focuses on the holistic development of the students.
