New World Group Leads around 140 Students of New World Springboard to a Conservation Tour
Organised under New World Springboard, a sustainable community programme by New World Group (the "Group"; Stock Code: 17.HK) which aims to encourage the under-resourced children and youths and improve their upward social mobility, around 80 New World Group mentors led 133 students to a conservation tour at Ocean Park on 6 April 2013.
The fruitful day began with the classes Ocean Ambassador, Conservation Ambassador, Dolphin Splash, Baby Seal Diary and Panda Ranger's Discovery in which tutors from Ocean Park Academy - Hong Kong introduced to students characteristics of different animals as well as key concepts on conservation. Students were given opportunities to experience close encounters with animals through listening to dolphins singing, feeding sea lions, touching starfish, etc.
Mentors accompanied students to visit penguins at South Pole Spectacular, arctic foxes at Arctic Fox Den and seals, sea lions and walruses at North Pole Encounter to better understand their different species and habitual behaviour. They also enjoyed the Sea Dreams! Show at Ocean Theatre where some students had the opportunity to interact with dolphins and sea lions. The trip has not only enhanced students' knowledge in nature conservation, but also deepened the bonds between mentors and students.
In the initial phase of New World Springboard focuses, eligible children and youth are offered free professional swimming and basketball training for a period of five to seven years. As an extension of this programme, New World Springboard Mentorship Programme helps students to widen their social circles. Under the mentorship programme, various activities including theme park visit and company visit are held to broaden students' horizons and enhance communication between students and mentors.
