New World Development staging Fair Trade Birthday Party In support of Fair Trade Fortnight 2012
New World Development Company Limited ("New World Group", "The Group"; Stock Code: 17.HK) supports the Fair Trade Fortnight 2012 and has organised a fair trade birthday party for its staff members in May. It provided fair trade snacks, distributed fair trade recipes and a quiz game, to let staff members have more understanding on fair trade and its underlying spirits. Gary Chen, Executive Director and Joint General Manager of the Group, also attended the birthday party to further encourage staff members' support on fair trade products.
Maria Cheung, General Manager of Corporate Communication of New World Development Company Limited, also gives full support to fair trade, saying, "Fair trade ensures fair returns to workers and farmers. New World Group strives for building a harmonious society and believes that fair trade contributes to sustainable development, securing the rights of workers and farmers while improving their livelihood and development opportunities."
Moreover, Discovery Park - Shopping Centre of New World Group became the venue sponsor of the kickoff ceremony of Fair Trade Fortnight 2012. Florence Hui, Under Secretary for Home Affairs, hosted the ceremony while Anthony Wong and Karena Lam, Fair Trade Art Ambassadors, have shown their support to the event. The Shopping Centre organised the "2012 Fair Trade Fair" in cooperation with Fair Trade Hong Kong from 4 to 6 May 2012, to let the public understand the concept of fair trade. The activity included a sharing session by Fair Trade Art Ambassadors, fair trade handcrafts making, dancing performance, game booths for children, etc. The Shopping Centre also has become the first location with a fair trade product vending machine in Hong Kong, further encouraging the public to support fair trade.
