Cafe introduces authentic Alpine flavours this winter
Cafe at Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Sha Tin enables guests to experience traditional Alpine charm with limited time dinner sets featuring classic cheese fondue and Swiss specialities, available at Cafe's outdoor terrace from 21 November 2011 to the end of January 2012.
Cheese fondue was promoted as a Swiss national dish in the 1930s. Blending Emmental, Gruyère and Fontina cheeses, the aroma of the fondue is enhanced by garlic, kirsch and Sauvignon Blanc.Alcohol-free cheese fondue is also available for family guests with children.
Switzerland is historically a country of farmers, and traditional Swiss cuisine tends to use simple and natural ingredients. For example, the Gruyère cheese in Gruyère Cheese Salad with Cervelat Sausage and Herbs Dressing lends a distinctive and nutty bite to this salad, while Cervelat is recognised as the national sausage and is well-liked throughout Switzerland.Swiss cuisine also carries the influence from its neighbouring countries. For instance, the gherkins in Gherkin Salad with Marinated Porcini Mushroom, Onion, Mesclun Lettuce and Red Wine Vinaigrette are imported from Germany, where pickled vegetables and relishes are famous, while the porcini mushrooms are considered as the king of fungi in Italy.
Among the main courses, Zürcher Geschnetzeltes is a traditional dish from the Zurich region, made with sautéed strips of veal with mushrooms in cream sauce and served with Rösti, a popular fried golden brown potato pancake.Authentic Swiss regional specialities also include Grilled Veal Sausage cooked with a raw and traditional touch.
Three set menus are available. Each menu includes an appetiser, a main course, cheese fondue, homemade baguette, and freshly brewed coffee or tea.
Guests can satisfy their sweet craving with classic Swiss desserts, including the mouth-watering Raspberry Kirsch Cake, rich and moist Swiss Chocolate Cake, light and refreshing Lemon Meringue Pie, and the classic Floating Island - soft vanilla custard with floating clouds of meringue.
Guests can also complement the feast with premium white wine from Switzerland or three classic schnapps: Kirsch is a strong, unaged brandy distilled from the fermented juice of black morello cherries; Poire Williams is a sweet liqueur distilled from pears in Switzerland; and Framboise, brandy distilled from raspberries in the Alsace-Lorraine region.
